WOW !!! I went to the Rural King in Jasper IN Sunday and the ammo shelves were almost bare !!! The only thing left was a few boxes of .25 auto, .222, and .30-06 Everything else was GONE.....even the .22 ammo. shotgun ammo was not affected as much ....but alot of it was gone also. Went to Wal-mart too and they still had close to the normal amount, which is not much. Anyone else seeing this much of a run to stock up ?

Midway is out of many things too. But it looks like they are expecting a big re-supply on the 16th or 17th of this month.

Our family gun store is having a HUGE problem stocking ammo and guns. Manufacturers cannot keep up with the demands right now....I really think folks are prepping for a war.
We have been selling out of anything we get in stock withing a matter of a day. Word gets out that you have ammo, gone! Ordering guns has been a HUGE challenge as again, manufacturers are just behind in production and cannot keep up with demand. I think I read somewhere, over 3 million new gun owners since the announcement of the 2nd amendment infringement.

It is reactionary ammo hording. People are buying everything they see, they are buying powder, bullets thinking they are going to reload but have no primers so that will not work out very well for them. I live near Cabelas and Bass pro. Cabelas is bare and Bass pro has some powder and a good selection of some bullets. I just bought some Lapua 6.5x47 brass (online) and 2 pounds of 4350 at bass pro. I have a good selection of primers and powder so I am good for a while.

I guess ammo supplies are getting better now. The only thing that's hard to find is 22 LR type ammo. Not sure why they still don't have enough 22 LR ammo to keep on the shelves.

Went to Gander Mountain in Evansville and they have a lot of ammo for all types of pistols now. Still no 22LR that I could see. They have 22 mag and 17HMRs and 222 in Accutip. They have a lot of the various Federal Type of ammo for 11 or 12 bucks. The good stuff sells for around 22 to 34 a box. I saw a lot of the big boxes (cans) of 223 stuff selling cheap. I found a few boxes of 223 with 50 sells instead of the regular 20 shells. It was much cheaper than buying it by the box of 20 . They put in a new aile just for the new ammo to display on tables.

I went to Gander Mt. [Evansville] recently and was shocked at the high prices . I can get the same Winchester .40 cal ammo at Wal-Mart for $36 that Gander has for $49 Box of 100 Evansville Rural king had Remington .22 golden bullets for $4.49 box of 50 on Black Friday. They had more than 25 boxes. Most places have a lot of stock now,it;s just finding a decent price that hard

I've been trying to find some Remington Accu tip 223 shells and can't find them anywhere anymore.
I bought some a while back and want to get some more since I sighted in my new rifle with these shells. They look like they would be great for hunting coyotes. They shoot good groups too.
I have some other Remington PSP 223 but I don't like the way they shoot. The tips of the PSP are not as defined and then tend to get out of shape. I'm sure that will affect the ballistics of these bullets.
I'd really like to get some Remington Accutips with the boat tail design and not have any hollow points. I want the polymer tip on the bullets.
I can't find them at Buck and Jakes or Gander Mountain. And Walmart is not carrying them either. Maybe Rural King will have some.
I' may have to drive over to West Louisville and see if I can find some there.

Well is't been a while since I first posted this thread. Things have improved a lot. Yesterday I went out shopping and visited three different Gun Stores. All three had plenty of 22LR ammo and the price was about $2.50 a box of 50 for 22LR or about $25 for a brick of 22 LR.
I found that the Hornady V Max is the same thing as the Remington Accu-Tip shells. The only person that I heard complaining was a guy who said he has some trouble finding 9 mm ammo for his hand gun.
As for primers, I saw large and small primers on the shelf and the shelf was full at Buck and Jakes out on the West Side of Evansville. B&J sells the Dillion 650 Reloading machines as well as the 1050 model. They also have a lot of reloading dies and other equipment such as Hornady sonic cleaner, brass tumblers, power, power scales and a few other brands of reloading equipment. They may not have everything but they do have a lot of things for sale between their two stores.
It's been since November of 2011 that ammo was scarce. I figured it would eventually make a come back with the price of ammo going up and the demand would come down sooner or later at those prices. People can't afford to shoot that much when the price of ammo is sky high. Well normal people that work week to week for a pay check Shooting is fun but it can get expensive too.
As for me I'm still shooting my Ambush Firearms 5.56 AR15 which is one of the guns that Daniel Defense makes for the hunting crowds. I've been shooting this year much more than I've been fishing and that's a turn around for me. During the spring and fall I'm normally out chasing crappie or bass. Heck I'm even prepared to do some frog hunting this summer. I've got the 22 ammo for frogs with the buckshot pellets in the 22 LR cal and I have the lights and a frog gig for doing some night frog hunting. All I need is some frogs now and the abilty to stay up late at night. I've been getting up early and therefore going to bed early these days. The Respiratory Dr. told me that I have a case of SEVERE sleep apnea. So he prescribed on of those Bi-Pap Machines with the tubing and a face mask for me to wear at night to help me breath better. Evidently I was stopping breathing many times a night and at one point in my sleep study I didn't breath on my own for over a full minute. My Blood Oxygen content went down to 65% which is very low. My doctor said it was serious and that I could have another heart attack or stroke if I didn't use my Bi-Pap Machine at night. I thought it was hog wash at first. but now I don't mind wearing it. I think I might actually be getting a better nights sleep. I was tired a lot before. So maybe this is a good thing. One needs to get a good nights sleep to be fully rested to take on the next day. The only issue I have with the tubing and mask is that the mask's seal on my face is not good and it leaks. When it leaks the air makes a loud noise that keeps me awake. So I have to tighten down the straps tighter to stop the leaks. Then it's so tight on my face that I wake up with indents in my skin. It can be a real pain at first until one gets used to it.

Well the bad news is that the supply of 22LR ammo is still not where it should be. The stores get some 22LR ammo in and it's sold right away. So the supply is still not keeping up with the demand.
When I got to the shooting range there is plenty of spent 22 rifle shells laying around on the ground so people are still shooting it.
I still have not got the boat out this year to fish. I just don't have the urge to go fishing anymore and to mess with getting the boat ready. I'm using the boat to store stuff on while it's sitting inside the attached garage. I really need to take it out and see if the engine still runs and to run it a few minutes just to keep it from rusting on the inside of the cylinders. I always used fogging oil inside the spark plug holes for winter storage but I got lazy and failed to put any oil in those spark plug holes the last two years.
This is a good time of the year to start fishing again from Crappie.
As for my shooting... I went out and purchased my first hand gun. I got the Walthers PPQ in 9 mm and have a couple of extra 17 round longer magazines to back up the two 15 round magazines that came with the pistol. I'm shooting some Blazer Brass in 9 mm at 115 Grains. And I got some Hornady P+ 135 gr home defense ammo. But I'm not going to shoot that stuff. I have some of the cheaper 9mm ammo to practice with. I love the way this pistol shoots. The trigger is great and the gun returns back on the target very well. I can shoot 17 shoots very fast and have all of them on the paper at 25 yards.
I wish that my shooting range had a pistol range as 25 yards is a little bit far for shooting targets with a 4" long pistol barrel. But I'm having fun with this new pistol.
I also decided to start carrying the pistol so I applied and paid for a life time concealed carry permit. I got it with in a week after getting my finger prints taken and sent into the Sheriffs office and paying the tax or fees. I think it cost 80 bucks to get the finger prints done electronically and then another 50 cash for the local Sheriff to process the application. But I got the license in the mail within 7 or 8 days. So it was rather painless to do this except for the money that I'm out now. $130 is what I think I paid for the license. But they have the application process down to where you can get a permit in one week instead of waiting for months. That's a good thing I guess.
I still need to get a holster and I'm not sure what to buy. Inside the waist or outside the waste or both. I'm not sure if I can fit a pistol inside my waist band. And I carry a cell phone on one side of my belt and a leatherman + Maglight flash light on the other side of my belt. That leaves little room for the pistol on my belt. If I add any more weight to my belt I may have to start wearing suspenders all the time to help keep my pants up. So for now I just keep the pistol with me in a pistol carrying bag. It's not handy but it's there if I have time to get the bag unzipped and opened to get the pistol out. Basically I just got the permit so that I can carry the pistol back and forth to the range without having to lock it up and keep the ammo separate from the pistol. And I wanted a pistol to use when hunting as a back up weapon for close range stuff. I'm thinking about a coyote or two getting too close to my back when I'm hunting out in the field after dark by myself. I feel safer knowing that I have a pistol for close range stuff just in case.
I'm not really sure I want to pack a pistol with me all the time either. Maybe after I get more used to shooting it I'll feel differently. But right now I'm more worried about me shooting myself in the foot than I am about someone else attacking me and having to use a pistol to defend myself. I mean I'm 63 and have never had to use a weapon before in my life. Other's may have lived a different life and feel that they need to be more protected. I guess it all depends on where you hang out and who you hang out with!
The pistol and the AR15 are not going to stop someone from breaking my door down and robbing me when I'm asleep at night or not at home. After talking to a x police fire arms instructor and detective I've figured out that it would be better to secure the hardware on my doors than to pack a pistol. If they can't kick the door in they may not even try to get in the house if all they want to do is rob someone randomly. So I'm thinking about getting some hardware to beef up my door's hardware to make it hard to break it down. Doors even with dead bolt locks are not that hard to break down from what I've been told. Especially if the door frame is wood not metal and they used short screws to hold the latches and hinges onto the wooden door frames. Even longer screws can be broken out of the door frame wood if enough force is applied to the right spots.
And I'm not really keen on sleeping with a loaded hand gun within reach all night long. I could easily just put the gun next to my head on the night stand as I don't have any kids living in the house anymore. I won't have to worry about anyone else grabbing the gun but me.
BTW: 9 mm ammo and 223 and 5.56 ammo is plentiful still. It's the 22LR ammo that's still in short supply.
Coyote Season opens in a month and two days. Time to get the gear ready and the flash light batteries charged up to full.
I've got a new light for coyote hunting so I'll be giving that a try this season. It's a smaller light with interchangeable light colors. Red or Green and White light can be used with this light.

The 22 rimfire is always gone at our local Walmart because one guy shows up everyday before 6am and buys the limit of 3 boxes. The dept. manager told me it's the same guy and that he sells it online. Manager also told me this guy was making 2 times what it cost him to buy. I think this is happening all over. The local walmart has alot of ammo, just no 22rimfire or 22-250.
