Well it's been almost 6 months since the ammo was plentiful. Finally when I went to Gander Mnt last week they had the shelves stocked with ammo. The only ammo that's still hard to find was the 22 cal rim fire shells. Evidently everyone is still buying them as soon as they show up on the shelves.
I guess a lot of new guns were sold in the 22 rim fire caliber.

I've been seeing reports of the same around Indiana as well as local gun shops. Haven't had a chance to see what the gun shops are charging yet though... I'm still waiting on bullets to hit the shelves or online shelves so I can stock up what i've been using the past 6 months.

You and I must know the same guy! I hear he bought a 22--250 to replace the .204 because he was made fun of in Wyoming.

I've been watching ammo very hard since December. I was fortunate to grab a lot online as the news choppers were circling newtown.
There is one local gun shop that started inching their prices up immediately... which kept ammo on the shelves. I watched a box of 22WMR ammo go from 12.50 to 14 to 16 and I quit going there for 3 months... came back a few weeks ago and saw that box sitting there for $29. I was there when the doors opened and they put out a box of 333 Winchester 22lr for $59. Ridiculous. Even more ridiculous, there were two boxes and I picked one up to look at it and some dude almost ripped it out of my hand. I obviously didn't want it so I handed it to a nice young guy with wide eyes at the sight of 22 ammo.
Between a couple good trades and random regular-price pickups at the store I've now got PLENTY of ammo. Just picked up 300 rounds of 45ACP this morning @ $29/100. That said, ammo is far from "normal" around here. 90% of the stores I visit have barren shelves. The rest have high prices. I think it we'll see frost before we see ammo regularly available on the shelf.

Oh... and I printed off a screen shot of my shopping cart about a month ago. Cheaperthandirt had a box (100) of CCI 22lr for $84.99 out the door. I printed it off to show my kids some day, crazy times.

Gander has plenty of 223 ammo today Saturday.
They didn't have a single box of 22 ammo there today. I heard that they get shipments on Wed and you have to be there when they open up to get 22 ammo. That really sucks. You would think that they could make enough 22 ammo to keep some on the shelf all week all month.
I think that the gun ammo manufactures and retailers are using the same sales gimmicks that the oil companies are using. Limit the amount they sell and increase the prices 2x or 3x to earn more money.
They work less and make more money. It sucks to be a consumer these days.

I checked out Gander Mountain in Evansville today and they didn't have any 22 LR ammo other than a few boxes of some CX type stuff. A guy at the store told me it was some cheap low powered 22 ammo. I guess that's why it was still sitting on the shelf. Normally over the past 6 months or so you could not find any 22 ammo on the shelves any more. Unless you got there when they received their shipment for the week or month. I've been told that the 22 ammo sells out really fast at most all the stores that I checked. Walmart, Buck and Jakes, Gander Mtn, Rural King and Dicks Sporting goods store.

The hoarders are buying it all. Just have to keep checking the shelves. And do not buy from people that are hoarding it

it's May 2015 and 22LR ammo is still not on the local store shelves in any quantity. When will the drought go away? I only have one old 10/22 Rifle that shoots 22LR ammo and I have a brick of ammo left for it now until they start keeping 22LR ammo on the shelves in quantities that the hoarders can all buy up.
