Brian are you going with a fluted Barrel ? I've seen hands on Shaw's barrels ,there not to far in Pa where I was from and i knew a few guys that had them made from them , good quality work there , in my personal opinion I don't see a need going over 22'' for what we do , mine is 22'' and it drives tacks at 400 plus a great length for running and gunning like we do , as far as your contour and diameter I cant help you out there I would call Shaw and tell him what you are building it for and he might be able to give you some suggestions........are you gonna have it threaded and capped for a suppressor mabe in the future ?

Baumy I some what biased on my barrels McGowen is the barrel that I have had the best experience with. Plus It's easy to replace a barrel on a Savage. A Little bit of a breakdown on what works nice for me. I stick with bull barrel, length with a 243 26" one thing I found to be the most beneficial is stick with the 4 groove, stainless no matter what barrel you choose they seem to foul less and clean easier. (lees grooves less build up) I shoot a 6.5x284 its a cleaning nightmare but I want It to last. When ordering make sure you know lug size and get the barrel nut wrench, it's not to bad of a price. Lastly get the 11 degree crown. Again this is what works for my shooters good luck to you.

Thanks for the feedback Mark and Devus. I don't think I will be investing in a can as much as I would like to. I will take the 4 groove and lug size to mind when i order a barrel.

Ended up going with the Criterion Stainless Select Match in a 1:9 26" Standard Varmint. Shilen was going to be a 7 month lead time... that wasn't gonna work! Got my Lapua brass and now i'm ready to try some loads and hit the range.

Is that a barrel or a truck axel?
I just pulled my Trust Rusty 243 apart and screwed and head spaced a new .308 barrel on it. I will get some picture up soon.

So... here I am a with a few hundred shots throw my Criterion SS 26' Varmint contour 1:8 twist barrel with a heavy recoil lug sitting in a Choate tactical stock. I am shooting 105gr Berger VLD's with 41gr of 4350. I am very very pleased. One hole groups at 100 all day long.
