The weather has slowly turned the corner and it appears Spring is here, so I'm jumping into my long list of offseason projects. Not much gets done around here between October & March, just ask my wife.
Project #1: Cold Crop Raised Beds! I got the first 4'x8' raised bed planted in Mid-March and it's already sprouting up nicely. With a little extra time away from the office, I made good progress on a second 5'x10' bed last week and finished up over the weekend.
Filled with some rich compost/soil-
Pack in some lettuce, onions, cabbage & broccoli-
Last step, CHICKEN PROOFING
MmmMmmm
After nocking out Project #2, AKA- Clean off Shooting Bench, I turned the kids loose on picking rocks out of the gardens. 10 minutes later, I find my shooting bench facilitating an unapproved siesta!
BE WARNED: After cleaning up the shop (Project #6) I had quite a bit of old cardboard, paper and lumber scraps piled up. The kids picked up a wheel barrow worth of sticks out of the yard so we had ourselves a nice fire going. Everything was going great until I threw on a box full of leaves and debris I'd swept up from under my shooting bench. I thought I was surrounded there for a minute, it was like the OK corral with all the rounds going off. The 22's & 17HMR's weren't so bad but when those 22-250's tear loose it'll scatter the chickens! I can't believe how many live rounds made their way to the ground! When the smoke cleared I fully expected one of the kids to ask that awkward question, "Daddy, what does S#*t F@*k mean?"
