It's been a few years since we've had one, figured I would see if there's any interest.
The Summer Shindig is a laid back gathering held somewhere in Southern Indiana on the first weekend following IPC Registration opening on July 15th. This year it would fall on the 18th & 19th so visitors could turn in their IPC Registration Forms on-site. I believe the 2010 Shindig had around 60 guys there, 2011 had about 12 (and my niece who kicked our ass at sporting clays). I had rented facilities and paid the fire department to come cook for 50 people, so I absorbed a loss of a few hundred dollars. We haven't had one since.
Festivities generally include eating good food, drinking beer, fishing, sporting clay competitions and general BS'ing around the campfire. If Newbomb makes it, there's usually a slap-n-tickle contest involved. Nothing too serious. A lot of folks come in Friday afternoon and setup camp (tents/campers) and most folks head home early Sunday morning. Families are welcome and it's not uncommon to see half a dozen youngsters running around chasing frogs or butterflies. There are several family friendly attractions around, water parks / caves / national forests. Some guys may slip out for a crow hunt, some may scout for spots to hunt in the next IPC.
Quite honestly, I'm not going to arrange all this for a dozen guys this year. I've got too many other obligations. If we come up with a headcount in the 30-60 range I'll try to make it happen. While the MPH Forums here are slow, the Indiana crowd really seems to have grown in the past 6-8 months on social media and our Indiana Predator Challenge event. I know a few guys have been prodding me to bring this event back, so I wanted to see who else is interested. Check your calendars and give it some thought, if the interest is there we'll have some fun in the sun!
