Forgive me... but with -25 wind chills I'm somehow distracted by the thought of springtime turkey hunts.
Since I haven't been out on an extended predator calling trip this season, first time in many years, I'm going to end up with some vacation time to use before June.
Turkey hunting is definately one of my favorite hobbies, right next to predator calling. I've spent several years putting together the right gear for turkey hunting, it's about the only other hobby I invest much money in. I've got the guns, bows, blinds and calls but last April I finally invested in a "flock" of top-of-the-line decoys that really make springtime turkey hunts a blast. I was hoping to get those decoys a little extra facetime with some birds this spring, thinking about going out of state for a few days.
Anybody have experience hunting turkeys around the country? I wouldn't mind a DIY experience on public land but it's an uphill battle trying to identify public lands and figure out the seasons & bag limits as a non-resident. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I have went to Iowa many times and killed a bird every trip. Last year my group decided we would go to Tennessee where we could kill more than one bird and I blanked. There are a ton of birds down there so we are going back again this spring.
